The Aviary Club of Nigeria is a worldwide registered non-profit organization (RC No. 9609), formally established on July 19, 1996. What began as sustained friendships among Nigerian students in higher institutions has evolved into a global fraternity of professionals committed to philanthropy, civic responsibility, and excellence in leadership.

Our members, known as Avians, are distinguished not only by academic attainment but by their desire to build a community anchored on shared values, discipline, and collective progress.

Overview

The Board of Directors of the Aviary Club of Nigeria is a distinguished body drawn from the Elders Council, composed of experienced and respected members entrusted with the operational leadership of the organization.

Relationship

The Board of Directors operates as an executive extension of the Elders Council, carrying out key administrative and governance responsibilities on behalf of the Council.

Elders Council

Elders Council serves as the advisory and custodial body of the club’s traditions and values, the Board of Directors is responsible for execution, coordination, and implementation of approved policies and initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

The Board of Directors is entrusted with:

  • Administrative Leadership: Managing the day-to-day operational structure of the club
  • Policy Execution: Implementing decisions approved by the Elders Council
  • Regulatory Compliance: Overseeing registration, legal documentation, and statutory obligations
  • Financial Oversight: Supervising financial activities and ensuring proper accountability
  • Organizational Coordination: Aligning all chapters, committees, and programs with the central vision
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and official records of the organization

Signatory & Legal Authority

Members of the Board of Directors are officially appointed signatories to the organization’s financial accounts and legal documents.

This includes:

  • Authorization and co-signing of bank transactions and financial instruments
  • Oversight and approval of organizational expenditures
  • Execution of registration documents and statutory filings
  • Custodianship of official records and compliance documentation

Their role ensures transparency, accountability, and legal integrity in all financial and administrative dealings of the Aviary Club of Nigeria.

Board of Trustees Historical Foundation

The Board of Trustees of the Aviary Club of Nigeria traces its origin to its official public recognition on Tuesday, 16th November 1993, when it was published in the Daily Times Newspaper. This marked a significant milestone in establishing the club’s formal identity and governance structure.

 

The organization was duly registered under the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria, with its administrative reference linked to Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

 

The registration process and legal documentation were facilitated by distinguished legal practitioner E.B. Obi, whose role ensured compliance with statutory requirements and institutional legitimacy.

 

Foundational Trustees 

The following individuals are recognized as the first foundational  trustees of the Aviary Club of Nigeria:

  • Mr. Gbolahan Akinbola
  • Mr. Moshood Akinlabi
  • Mr. Aburime Oboh

These pioneers laid the structural, philosophical, and leadership foundation upon which the Aviary Club continues to grow and thrive today.

Evolution and Continuity

Since its inception, the Board of Trustees has maintained a system of Rotational leadership, where membership evolves decade by decade.

This rotational structure reflects the club’s commitment to sustainability, fairness, and progressive leadership development.
